I started with the following foods:
avocado, sweet potatoes, carrots, bananas, and apples
I make all of Liam's foods. I didn't start with cereal, I skipped it all together. I jumped straight into pureed foods. It's super easy to make, and it's kind of fun! Once I puree his food I put it in ice cube trays. Each time he eats I pop an ice cube in the microwave and ta da- homemade baby food!
The first three foods were a disaster. He didn't even come close to finishing a serving. I thought he wasn't ready because he pushed everything back out. His head would turn the opposite direction of the spoon and he would make the most disgusted look. It made for some hilarious video and great pictures! Greg and I laughed and laughed. Greg was about to throw in the towel, but I kept at it. Every morning and every night we would sit at the table and try. It didn't matter if nothing went into his mouth, as long as he saw the routine I figured he would just get used to it.
His First Food: Avocado
Every time we introduced a food we had to stick with it for 3 days to see if it caused any allergic reactions. So far so good! While we were in New York I figured we would try bananas since you don't have to cook them. Well - bananas changed his life. He loved them! He literally couldn't get enough. I started mixing some bananas in the first three foods and it was like magic. Liam gobbled everything up!
I no longer have to hide bananas in his food. He loves food. As I'm writing this he is almost 6 months old. Now Liam takes two cubes in the morning and two more at night. He favors the fruits more than the vegetables. But - he will pretty much eat anything. Liam gobbles everything right up!
Next up - squash!
