Liam Gregory Donohue

Well we did it! We named our son. I know I just wrote a post about how we couldn't decide on a name but to be fair I haven't posted in almost 3 weeks. We have given this some serious thought.

Like I said in the previous post about naming him, we took turns with names that we really liked.  We technically only did this for 4 weeks.  We went through the following names:

  • Mason
  • Jacob
  • Liam
  • Will

During the "Will" week we kept referring to him as Liam and then would laugh that it wasn't Liam's week.  We tried Will, we really wanted to love it.  Will was our top name from the moment we found out we were pregnant. One day I told Greg I was done and that Liam was it. We both loved the name and we both knew it just felt right.

On Friday, April 19th, we talked about middle names. We had a whole list of these as well.  I really wanted something that began with a "J" so that I could call him LJ. I love nicknames and Liam doesn't offer too many of them. I suggested Jacob and Jeffrey, and Greg suggested Jack. I knew Greg wanted his name to be his son's middle name but I wasn't sold on it. I honestly didn't have a reason.  I named as many names as I could think of and could just see the disappointment on Greg's face.  Once I realized how much it would mean to him I agreed, Liam Gregory it is!

We both LOVE the name.  It means "will, protection."  So technically, we are still getting the name Will in there. Gregory means "vigilant, watchful."  It sounds like a perfect combination to us.

Just so we can look back and see, these were our favorite boy names:

  • William (Will)
  • Jack
  • Cameron
  • Charlie
  • Jacob
  • Max (Greg hated this name but I refused to get rid of it)
  • Liam
  • Logan (This is one of our favorite names, but we always liked it for a girl)
  • Mason

Our top middle names for Liam were:

  • Liam Gregory
  • Liam Wilke
  • Liam Patrick
  • Liam Michael
  • Liam Mason (Greg didn't want to use Mason because then it was off the table for baby #2, apparently we are having a boy again)

A dog's life

I am so excited to meet this baby boy in August.  However, I still can't help but think about KC.  She is going to go through some major changes.  She will no longer be the center of attention and will be lucky if she gets fed on time. All my friends with kids tell me that KC will become just a dog, she will no longer be my baby.  This honestly makes me sad. I know that sounds pathetic, but this dog is my life!

I can't help but laugh everytime I see this picture. This dog knows something is coming!!

KC also knows some major changes are on the way.  KC has always been a huge cuddler.  She loves curling up with a blanket and laying between Greg and I.  However, ever since I got pregnant she insists on cuddling with my stomach.  She lays right on top of poor baby Liam.  Greg and I joke that Liam will be her puppy.  She will probably give up sleeping with us and sleep upstairs in the nursery. (That would be nice!)

We recently bought some books for Liam.  When we read them guess who joins us for storytime? You guessed it, KC!

As soon as we get the books KC immediately jumps up ready to read. She probably thinks it is so nice of us to read to her every night.

Starting in August I might not have as much time for KC as I used to, but she will always be my baby girl. Even if she gets in the way of our monthly photos...

Month 5 Recap

Due Date:  August 11, 2013

Gender: BOY!

Feeling: I'm feeling great! At the beginning of month 5 Greg and I went on our "babymoon."  We cruised the Caribbean and had a great time. It was both exciting and sad to know this would be our last vacation just the two of us for awhile. While at the ports we did a LOT of walking. I experienced my first swollen ankles. I never let Greg touch my feet, but it was a must this week. I'm also noticing that I'm getting tired more easily and that water is a necessity throughout the day.

Maternity Clothes: still love them! When you are pregnant you get to call them your "fat clothes."  If you aren't pregnant they are "maternity clothes."

Food Cravings: I have yet to send Greg off on a midnight run, I think I might have to try that soon just for fun. I'm still eating 2-3 pineapples a week, I can't get enough!

Food Aversions: I'm beginning to eat a little chicken here and there. As long as I don't see it raw I'm good. Maybe one day I'll be able to cook it again. We will see.

Sleep: Sleeping great! I really wanted to buy a body pillow because they just look so comfortable.  Once I found out they were $60+ I decided I'll stick with my 72 pound dog as a body pillow instead.

Miss Anything:  With the warmer weather I would love an ice cold beer to enjoy on my porch. On the crusie I was missing seafood and cheese! I ate some seafood but I didn't want to go too crazy.

Best Moments:
  • On Thursday, March 28th, we felt him kick for the first time. I was at work complaining to my coworkers about how I was 20 weeks and still haven't felt him kick. That night I went home and felt a flutter.  Someone at work explained it as an eye twitch and thats exactly what it felt like.  Greg was home and I put his hand on my stomach and he was able to feel him too.  I instantly felt so much relief because I knew my baby was okay and thriving inside.  I also felt instant love, he was no longer just a picture on a screen.
  • Another awesome moment this month was of course our Babymoon! It was a perfect way to relax and get away from work, cell phones, and the TV.
  • At the very end of month 5 (April 19th to be exact) we named our son, Liam Gregory Donohue.

Looking Forward to: NURSERY, NURSERY, NURSERY - - - painting, buying furniture, organizing everything, etc. This has been on my mental to do list for so long, but it really needs to be started in month 6!

The boy without a name...

Our poor kid is going to be one of those children who is born without a name.  Greg and I can't decide on a name.  It's a huge decision and we are definitely putting a lot of thought into it. Greg has a "thing" about picking a name that means something. We looked up our names and this is what we found:

Gregory: vigilant, watchful

Ashley: from the ash tree

Clearly the meaning of names doesn't mean much to me, I was apparently named after a tree. I think Greg wants his son to have a name that comes from somewhere or something in our lives.  He was named after two uncles that he never met and he likes that part of his name, "Gregory Michael."  My name was from a hat. My parents put 3 names they liked into a hat and picked one. My middle name, "Caroline" was my mom's middle name.  I too like how I got my name and think it is a cool story.  Some days I feel like putting all 40+ of our names into a hat and just picking one.

We have our list of favorites that we both agree on and are taking turns with the names.  For example two weeks ago we referred to him as "Mason" and the following week we called him "Jacob."  Although this sounds silly we have realized that we don't really like Jacob as much as we thought we would, and we really like the name Mason.  This week, he is Liam. Another name we are also really enjoying. Who knows what next week will bring!?!

Our poor son is going to be so confused.  Let's not even get started on his wardrobe.  This is a whole other issue in our house.

If Greg had his way our son would wear these...

If I had my way he would be wearing these...

Until we meet Liam...errr Mason....he is simply known as LITTLE MAN!

Month 4 Recap

Due Date: August 11, 2013
*I know this is different then the 3 month due date, but this is the OFFICAL due date.

Gender: BOY!!!

Feeling: My smell has died down a lot since month 3. I think this has to do with the Claritin I am now taking.  I am feeling great everywhere else.  My stomach is definitely growing and I have some growing pains, but nothing too major.

Maternity Clothes: Love them, wear them as often as I can.

Food Cravings: Fruit (pineapple, green grapes, and blackberries)

Food Aversions: I still have not eaten chicken and I can't smell garlic.  Other than that I'm loving everything else!

Sleep: I read online that you should be sleeping on your left side, so I try and stick to that every night. I sound like an old woman when moving in bed, it is definitely getting harder to move around. KC is still sleeping wrapped up in my legs, she will get a rude awakening very soon I'm sure! She is going to find her butt on the ground!

Miss Anything: sushi, goat cheese, ice cold Blue Moons

Best Moments:The best moment this month was of course finding out we are having a baby boy! It was so neat to be able to see him and how much he has grown. We also started our baby registry this month, and that was surprisingly a lot of fun! I was dreading this!

Looking Forward to: feeling him kick for the first time, my baby shower coming up in May, decorating the nursery, cleaning out the nursery, and baby clothes shopping!
